The acronym IDEAS stands for Identifying Depression, Empowering Activities for Seniors.  This evidence-based program is designed to detect and reduce the severity of depressive symptoms.  It has been effective in the home environment, reaching those at greatest risk for recurrent depression and excess disability due to depression.  

Specific training topics can also be tailored to meet the needs of the regions seniors and providers.

HEALTHY U: This program will teach you how to design your own self-management program.

This FREE program runs 6-weeks for 2 1/2 hours a week. It teaches how to deal with the symptoms and frustration of a chronic condition (Diabetes, Asthma, Emphysema, Heart Conditions, High Blood Pressure, Multiple Sclerosis and Arthritis, to name a few). Topics addressed in the workshop include: Working with your doctor, Medication "how to's," Personalizing a fitness and exercise program, Relaxation techniques, Dealing with negative emotions, Managing symptoms, Improving communications, Tips for eating well, Setting weekly goals, Effective problem-solving. There is no charge.

Methamphetamines and Street Drugs: Dangers for Home Care Providers:
This 3 hour workshop presented by The Major Crimes Task Force from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office will help participants understand the impact of drug abuse and the special challenges for healthcare professionals.  $35/participant                                                                                                                                         

COALA Classes:  This FREE training is for individuals who want to be trained to work with the elderly as a homehealth aide and enter the Health Care Field. This is a 75 hour training. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be assisted with job placement in the Home Health Field.                                                                                                          

 

Ethics for Supervisors & Managers: The workshop will help participants understand Ethical Behavior interactions, Role Modeling Expectations and Identifying Core Components $55/participant

Sensitivity to Aging (2 CEU's) - an opportunity for participants to gain "hands-on" experience of the sensory losses with which many older adults cope. In this highly interactive session, participants will become familiar with the facts and myths surrounding aging and acquire practical techniques to communicate with older adults despite vision and hearing loss. $35/participant

DRIVE (8 hour course - NO CEU's): A course for drivers who want to acquire new skills or review existing ones. It assumes previous experience transporting older and/or disabled passengers. Participants will develop sensitivity to the transportation needs of older passengers and passengers with disabilities, as well as demonstrate correct passenger assistance techniques. $30/participant

Drive Refresher Training (4-hour Session - No CEU's) - for drivers who want to update their skills and knowledge. The curriculum assumes that drivers have taken the original DRIVE course three or more years ago. Participants will update their skills and knowledge regarding the transportation needs of older passengers and passengers with disabilities. $25/participant

SERVSAFE®
SERVSAFE®The ServSafe® Food Safety Certification course for foodservice employees trains employees in the national model Food Code from the Food and Drug Administration which was adapted for the Ohio Uniform Food Safety Code. Upon completion of the course and an
examination, the employee is certified by the NRAEF for a period of five years. 

RESPECTING CHOICES®:  It begins with communication:  This program is designed to address the “what ifs” that face families down the road that are many times not discussed due to the nature of the topic and the difficulty of talking about it.  Many families have to make difficult decisions at an already stressful time such as the illness or death of a loved-one, when life-planning decisions aren’t made ahead of time.  Individuals will receive tools and resources to assist their families in conducting life planning discussions.
