Make a New Year’s Resolution to Own Your Future
Get a Free Ohio Long-Term Care Planning Guide

Ohio’s baby boomers are turning 65 at the rate of nearly 15,000 a month. For many, it is time to consider a New Year’s Resolution to make a plan for future long-term care needs.

The Area Agency on Aging 8 (AAA8) can help. Free “Own Your Future” long-term care planning guide and in-home assessment are available. The guide stresses the importance of healthy lifestyles, encourages legal and estate planning and explains various tools and products. The planning process highlights for consumers the importance of not only deciding now what types of services they would like to receive and where, but exploring the best ways to pay for the services.

“Many ask me why? And to that, I say because it’s a fact that 70 percent of us will need some type of long-term care in our lifetime,” said Area Agency on Aging Director Rick Hindman. “These free ‘Own Your Future’ materials are asking families to have meaningful discussions and make decisions about long-term care needs now, before the services are needed. And, we are not selling anything – simply trying to encourage folks to think about their futures.”

It is estimated that about nine million men and women over the age of 65 needed long-term care last year. The “Own Your Future” campaign is a great first step toward helping Ohio families have meaningful discussions and make decisions about long-term care needs before the services are necessary.

With one call, folks can receive an Ohio-specific long-term care planning guide and the opportunity to talk with professionals and learn more about the Area Agency on Aging’s local services.

Long-term care planning does not necessarily take the place of having family members care for loved ones. It helps ensure that individuals and their families have choices when the time comes. Residents with an immediate need for long-term care may call the Area Agency on Aging toll-free at 1-800-331-2644 to request a free, in-home personal assessment.
