Joe
Gage,
Housing Coordinator for the
Buckeye Hills Area Agency on Aging
District 8 (AAA8),
recently completed the Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist (CAPS)
program through the National Home Builders Association (NAHB). Gage is
one of only two in the southeastern Ohio region with the designation.
“The CAPS
designation is a reliable way to identify professionals who will help
aging Americans modify their homes,” said AAA8 Director Rick Hindman.
“We are pleased that Joe has earned the certification as it lends even
more credibility to the work he manages and expands his ability to
provide consultation services to homeowners and contractors on behalf of
the aging residents in our region.”
NAHB developed the program to address the growing number of consumers
that will soon require housing modifications to “age in place.” CAPS
professionals are remodelers, general contractors, designers, architects
and even health care consultants.
Joe is responsible for grant administration across the eight county
region. He helps eligible residents answer questions like “how can I
make my kitchen more functional; how do I modify my bathroom or home
entrance; and what type of contractor should I use.”
Buckeye Hills Area Agency on Aging is planning for future needs and
promoting independence, dignity, health, and well being for individuals
60+ and their caregivers throughout the region by contracting with
service providers dedicated to delivering the highest quality service
available. AAA8 is also the area’s administrator of PASSPORT services, a
cost-effective, in-home alternative to nursing home care for
Medicaid-eligible Ohio residents age 60 and
older.
